The idea
Most platforms police tone, taste and which opinions are allowed. CTFO doesn't. Post whatever you actually believe, controversial, weird, unpopular, blunt. Disagreement is normal here. Most of what you'll see is just people posting about stuff they care about: games, music, sport, hobbies, life.
The one line is: don't state false things as if they were facts. If you do, you get a correction attached to that post, with sources, not a ban. We call it a pin. It's rare and considered, only for verifiable factual claims in categories where accuracy matters (news, politics, science, health). Gaming opinions, music takes, jokes, never pinned.
How a correction works
- A user posts a claim of fact in a category where accuracy matters
- Any user can flag it as misinformation with a reason
- A moderator reviews it. Only verifiably false claims of fact get pinned; opinions, jokes and hot takes get dismissed
- If pinned, the post displays a correction with sources up top, and the original sits below behind a toggle
- The pin sits on the user's record at
/u/<username>/recordfor transparency
Who gets banned vs corrected
Honest mistake? Pin with sources. You stay. Your record gets one entry. Disagree? Appeal it.
Bad-faith behaviour? Repeated deliberate misinformation, coordinated spam, harassment campaigns, flag abuse, sock-puppets to escape pins, that's when the ladder kicks in: warning, post limit, suspension, ban. The pin system is for honest disagreement. It's not for people treating the platform like a game.
In practice: if you're trying in good faith you'll never get banned. You might get a pin you can argue with.
What doesn't get pinned
- Opinions you disagree with
- Hot takes, predictions, speculation
- Jokes, satire, obvious shitposts
- Unpopular views, even sharply worded ones
- Things that are merely unprovable, pins need verifiable falsehood
Common questions
- Who decides what's misinformation?
- At launch, a single moderator. Every pin is signed and sourced so the call is auditable, not anonymous.
- What if I get pinned unfairly?
- Show the moderator counter sources, if they hold up the pin is removed and the record annotated with the reversal.
- What about bad faith flagging?
- Flags need a reason, repeat abusers get rate limited and dismissed flag stats are tracked.
